Best Weapons in Black Myth: Wukong – A Guide to Mastering the Monkey King’s Arsenal

06/10/2024 Lauren Harris 675

Ready to unleash your inner Monkey King in Black Myth: Wukong? It’s not just about swinging any old staff; to truly embody the legendary Wukong, you’ll need to hunt down the best weapons. With less than two dozen weapons scattered throughout the game—many hidden or locked behind New Game Plus—finding the right staff can be a real challenge. Lucky for you, this guide breaks down the best weapons from Chapter 1 to Chapter 6 (and beyond) to help you dominate the battlefield.

Best Early-Game Weapons

The first bosses in Black Myth: Wukong are no joke, but with these early-game staves, you’ll be able to survive the trials of Chapters 1 through 3.

Twin Serpents Staff
Looking for an upgrade in Chapter 1? The Twin Serpents Staff is your go-to. With a base attack of 40, it’s a big step up from the basic Willow Wood and Bronze Cloud staves. Plus, its passive ability boosts your damage while standing in water—a surprisingly useful perk given the abundance of water in the early chapters. To snag this weapon, defeat the Whiteclad Noble boss in the Bamboo Grove.

Cloud-Patterned Stone Staff
The Cloud-Patterned Stone Staff reigns supreme in the early game thanks to its high attack and defense stats. It’s especially powerful when paired with the Smash Stance’s charged heavy attack, which gets a huge damage boost from the staff’s passive effect. Though your combat style may become a bit one-dimensional, smashing your way through enemies will feel incredibly satisfying. You can acquire this beast of a weapon in Chapter 2 after gathering the six Buddha Eyeballs and defeating the secret boss Shigandang.

Best Mid-Game Weapons

Mid-game battles require more firepower, and these staves are up to the challenge in Chapters 3 through 5.

Kang-Jin Staff
If you’re looking for the best overall weapon during the mid-game, the Kang-Jin Staff is a solid pick. With high attack and critical rate stats, it’s a versatile staff that packs a punch. Its biggest perk? The Punishing Downpour skill, which swaps standard AoE damage for powerful Thunder damage, making it a boss-killer. To wield this beauty, you’ll need to unlock the Punishing Downpour skill in the martial arts tree and defeat the Kang-Jin Star boss early in Chapter 3.

Golden Loong Staff
The Golden Loong Staff offers the highest base attack of any mid-game weapon, especially if you prefer the Pillar Stance. Its true power lies in its ability to amplify heavy attacks that use Focus points, electrifying your enemies with Thunder damage. You’ll find this “mythical” staff after defeating the Cyan Loong and Yellow Loong bosses in Chapters 3 and 4.

Staff of Blazing Karma
Prefer setting your enemies on fire? The Staff of Blazing Karma boasts a high base attack and passive effects that spawn lava, igniting enemies with a damaging burn effect. This weapon can be crafted as an upgrade to the Cloud-Patterned Stone Staff using materials like Samadhi Fire Crystals and Gold Tree Cores, which are found in Chapter 5.

Best Endgame Weapons

By the time you reach Chapter 6, or start a New Game Plus run, the best weapons become available, offering game-changing abilities.

Jingubang
This legendary staff takes critical hits and spell synergy to a whole new level. Not only does it offer one of the highest base attack stats in the game, but its passive effect lets you maintain your fourth Focus point indefinitely, making your strongest attacks easier to execute. To unlock the Jingubang, you’ll need to defeat a series of bosses—Cloudtreading Deer, Gold Armored Rhino, Feng-Tail General, and Emerald-Armed Mantis—in Chapter 6, and wear the full Monkey King armor set.

Dark Iron Staff
The Dark Iron Staff is a defensive powerhouse. Its passive effect boosts attack power based on your defense stat, making it perfect for tanky builds. Combine it with the Bull King armor set to become nearly indestructible. However, this weapon is exclusive to New Game Plus and is obtained by defeating the Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast in Chapter 5.

Adept Spine-Shooting Fuban Staff
Looking for a crit-boosting weapon? The Adept Spine-Shooting Fuban Staff offers a 25% critical rate boost while also recovering HP based on your heavy attack’s Focus point consumption. It’s not the heaviest hitter compared to other endgame weapons, but it excels at crowd control. Like the Dark Iron Staff, this one is only available in New Game Plus and can be crafted using materials from the Fuban and Scorpionlord bosses.

Conclusion

Whether you’re crushing enemies with the early-game Twin Serpents Staff or obliterating bosses with the endgame Jingubang, knowing the best weapons in Black Myth: Wukong can make all the difference. With this guide, you’ll be well-equipped to master the battlefield and take your place as the legendary Monkey King.
