Wolcen: Lords Of Mayhem won't receive new updates and its multiplayer will switch off in September

In the world of action-RPGs, nearly every game draws comparisons to the genre's cornerstone, Diablo. Wolcen: Lords Of Mayhem emerged in this space, launching shortly after Diablo 4 was announced, and briefly quenched some of our early click cravings. However, early enthusiasm quickly waned due to bugs, slow updates, and other issues. Now, its developers have announced that they will cease support for the game, and multiplayer functionality will be switched off in September.

The developers shared their heartfelt announcement about the game's future:

"Thank you for your unwavering support and dedication. We are fully aware of the challenges that have emerged from the early technical decisions made regarding the game's architecture, challenges that are insurmountable without a complete technology overhaul."

They continued, "We have diligently updated Wolcen, enhancing every facet of the game from introducing new chapters and items to improving UI, animations, and the meticulous balancing of skills, items, and gameplay, alongside technical enhancements. Despite these efforts and the team's dedication behind our patches, we've encountered foundational hurdles that prevent further improvements under the existing framework."

The Final Date

Starting September 3, 2024, Wolcen will no longer support multiplayer functionality. Additionally, development and support for the game will cease entirely.

Moving Forward

Wolcen Studio plans to shift their focus to new projects, applying the hard-earned lessons from their work on Wolcen. Although multiplayer will be gone, Wolcen: Lords Of Mayhem will still be playable in single-player mode, and the game's price will be permanently reduced to reflect this change.

While it's always sad to see a game's development come to an end, we can look forward to what Wolcen Studio has in store for the future. For those who still enjoy the game, the single-player experience remains, now at a lower cost.
